Highest miles on Ecoboost Escape

Postby amdgamer - July 12th, 2016, 1:42 am

I was curious who here has the most miles on their Ecoboost Escape. Right now I am trying to decide between ordering an Escape or Subaru Outback 3.6r this winter, but the thought of a GTDI setup in the Escape is scaring the hell out of me. Have any Escape owners with the 2.0 Ecoboost have had any carbon related issues yet?

I only had 24,000 miles on my 2014 when I traded it in. So I am not a good source.

I understand why you are asking the question. Ford, to my knowledge, hasn't given dealers instructions on how to remove carbon build up. Trouble is, if you do it wrong, you could damage the turbo.

That is what is scaring me. There are many reports of Mustang and F150 guys blowing up their turbos trying to get the carbon out. At least the 3.5's do not appear to have the problems that VW's have. I was hoping Ford would have switched to dual fuel injection by now. The thought of having to spend money to take apart the manifolds to get the carbon out makes no sense either when there are plenty of good vehicles like the Subaru flat 6 which are port injected. Before my current appliance, my last 2.0 Ecoboost Fusion started stumbling and stalling at 26k miles at which point I gave up on it.

Subarus have been lately known to burn lots of oil, class action lawsuits in the works.

I'm on a Subaru forum and it appears to be hit and miss isolated incidents mostly affecting the older engines. I think there is one guy with a 2.5 flat 4 who burns a quart every 3000 miles. I don't think any of the flat 6 Outbacks have this issue That would be considered by any manufacturer to be within normal tolerances.

Right now, it is a very close as I like station wagons with good proven engines, but I also really LOVE what Ford has done with the new 2017 Escapes. You also cannot argue with Subaru's flat 6 engine which is known for being exceptionally smooth while keeping the center of gravity low. The downside is that they couple that great engine to yet another CVT. The new Escapes look phenomenal on the inside as it looks upscale and plush. Supposedly, the 2017's have an improved AWD system as well although I am still not a fan of these Haldex differential style systems.

FWIW before buying the E last year, I looked into an Outback ... I had the Subaru dealer check it out and the ludicrous costs of the repairs convinced me not to buy a Subaru.
