2008-2012 TIRE OPTIONS

Postby HollywoodEscape - November 29th, 2016, 12:12 pm

I find that using the search function for finding out my tire size options is useless on this site. So I thought I'd post some info I found and maybe someone can confirm this is true.:

Apparently, this is what discounttiredirect.com says what will fit my escape
225/70-16
225/75-16
235/70-16
245/70-16
255/65-16

165/90-17
215/70-17
235/60-17
235/65-17
245/60-17
255/60-17

225/60-18
235/55-18
235/60-18
245/55-18
255/55-18

225/55-19
235/50-19
235/55-19
245/50-19
255/50-19

235/45-20
245/45-20
255/45-20

245/40-21
255/40-21

255/35-22

Can someone please confirm?

Also, I currently am driving on 225/65/17, my question is if what I posted is true, does that mean I can just buy another set of tires+rims in that range and just swap it on my Escape with no issues? I'm talking no leveling kit, etc, just stock setup.

I have 235/60/18s on Mazdaspeed3 wheels. Speedometer remains accurate. I also found after the fact that this is the tire size on the Mazda CX-7 (which shares the same wheel bolt pattern and I believe center bore). So if you could find some take-off wheels and tires from a CX-7, you should be able to just bolt them on and go.

If I am going to upgrade my wheel/tire package on any car, I would tend to not go with an OEM size already available for my model car (ie 16s or 17s in this case). Just my preference. An exception might be doing a larger off-road tire on an OEM rim.

When searching I found, for some reason, 19" tires seemed to be more expensive in many cases than comparable 20s. Anything bigger that 20s, in my opinion is too big for the Escape.

Ford Sport Trac Adrenaline have 20s that fit the Escape, as do the Mazda CX-9. There are some other Ford and Lincolns with 20s (Edge and MKX for example) but you would have to have the center bore enlarged by a machine shop. Not sure if tires from these cars would fit, my guess is no.

2011 Escape XLT

Silver. 2.5L Sun and Sync package. 18" Mazdaspeed3 wheels/Falken tires/Ford center caps. Body color grille, billet upper and lower inserts, chrome door handle and mirror covers, custom engine cover, Class III hitch.

My 2009 Escape ( bought last year ) has 17 inch rims and P225/65 R17 tires. I like A/T tires and they're hard to find that I can afford in 17 inch sizes. There are a lot more affordable ones in 16 inch. One tire dealer says I can replace the rims and tires with 16's as long as the tire sidewall and width measurements are similar and there might be a mile difference in the speedometer reading. Another dealer says not to because the 16 inch rims will probably rub the brake calipers and the transmission isn't set up for 16's. Am I right in thinking this guy just wanted me to buy his tires ? The info sticker in the car says the tire size is 17. I want to get new rims anyway and prefer the 16's if they will work. The tires on the car now are 6 years old and have a lot of small cracks in the sidewalls. One tire has a slow leak and needs air about once a week. The tread is ok for now. Has anybody switched to a smaller tire and rim with no problems ? :wall:

Since the 2009 Escape came standard with either 16" or 17" wheels depending on the model I would say yes the dealer advising against 16" was either trying to sell you something he had or just doesn't know much about Escapes. I've stuck with the OEM 16" rims on mine because 16" tires are so much cheaper then 17"

No, the XLT came standard with 16" rims. The Limited and Sport came with 17"
