2011 XLT 3.0 - Crappy Shift 1-2 Is there a TSB?

Postby Jamesjedi - May 19th, 2017, 3:17 pm

Hi,

I have an aftermarket warranty that will not cover the repair for my Escapes poor shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. It is a harsh shift. I have had it flashed with the latest software.

Is there a repair TSB for this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

TSB 12-4-7 - 6F35 TRANSMISSION - INTERMITTENT HARSH 1-2 OR HARSH 5-6 SHIFT, LATE 4-5 (2.5L) OR 4-5 SHIFT FLARE COLD - NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES - Superseded by TSB 12-6-12

TSB 12-6-12 6F35 TRANSMISSION - INTERMITTENT HARSH 1-2 OR HARSH 5-6 SHIFT, LATE 4-5 (2.5L) OR 4-5 SHIFT FLARE COLD - NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 5/8/2012

Might not apply, but involves replacing PCM
Emission 10E01 - CERTAIN 2011 MODEL YEAR ESCAPE AND MARINER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE AND AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - WASHINGTON STATE EMISSIONS

TSB 12-6-12 is just an update to the PCM
  1. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 78.02A and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2012.3 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at http://www.motorcraft.com
  2. Verify that the transmission fluid level is at the top of the operating range if vehicle is not used for recreational flat towing behind a motorhome at a transmission fluid temperature of 85 deg C(185 deg F).

Have you ever changed the tranny fluid?

Good luck.. my 2009 has had 2 trans rebuilds and 4 software flashes. Still chirps the tires shifting when cold if i'm not careful. Once in a while when hot in traffic, it feels like I get rear ended on 1-2 shifts or downshifts. These transmissions suck.

Thanks for the replies. It has been a frustrating experience, my aftermarket warranty will only cover it if it has a catastrophic failure.

My transmission fluid is good. I have changed it twice since I bought the car. I have owned it for less than three years.

I am not sure how much longer I will on it.

The TSBs that you have posted do not show anything more than a reflash of the latest software, and checking the fluid. That has been done. And it still shifts crappy.

I guess I just have to live with it. Thanks again for all the help. It is very much appreciated.
