Most ground clearance that can be achieved in first gen?

Postby AmericanPatriot76 - September 19th, 2016, 12:28 am

I'm looking to get as much clearance (or as close to 12 inches as possible), Because that's pretty much about what I would need for my local trails. Ia it even possible to achieve 12 inches without ruining the geometry of everything?

Look into getting Canuck Motorsports, H&R, or OME/ARB lift springs. Also I'm not sure about the 1st gens but on the 2nd gens one of the cats hangs down really low and that can be a real pain. If you can "fix" that then those two points would be a great starting point.

Currently:
Hidden hitch tow hitch, OEM all weather floor mats, ESCAPE third brake light overlay, sport appearance headlamps, strut tower brace, Drag Wheels DR-33 rims, Mazda Tribute tail lights
Firestone Destination A/Ts P235/75/R16
Plastidip: smoked tail lights, gloss black shifter bezel, gloss black air vent trim
OEM black moulding (grille, bumper, hatch)
LEDs: front turn signals, front side markers, Morimoto XB LED fog lights, VLEDs V3 Triton Switchbacks
Hopefully some more to come in the future...(suggestions welcome :D)

I plan on getting the OME 1" kit, and going up from a 235/70/R16 to a 245/75/R16 after i get the lift kit, so there's more room for the bigger, A/T tires. I also am replacing the the shocks and struts. I have KYB struts for the front and Gabriel Gas shocks for the back.

Will do friend. Took my E in today to get the new struts and shocks installed, and my shop quoted me $132 to install the shocks. Haha no way. I'll do them myself. I hate to think how much it'll be to get the OME lift installed.

You could put soma tall pizza cutter/wagon wheels to get some clearance (i.e. 215/80-15), but nobody thinks that looks cool.
Realistically anything over about +1" is pretty much a fantasy as you're getting into custom shocks/struts, drivetrain components, etc. Not just true for the Escape but any fully independent suspension SUV.

I might go for the big pizza cutters when I need tyres.
Might start a new trend.
Could be the new cool next summer

Luckily, the ARB/OME lift kit lifts the E 1.75" :D and the 245/75's should give me around 2". Hopefully there'll be no rubbing.

http://fts4x4.com/en/products/?method=detail&aid=380 660 bucks plus shipping. All new suspension with 2 inches of lift. Get a bigger tire can have about 3 inches I'm going to get this for my 2005 Ford escape... Not bad price especially when you get everything in the kit for a new suspension.....

Note the kit is from Taiwan, it is most likely made for Taiwanese Escapes made in Taiwan which are different than USA market Escapes made in USA. Several people have tried to fit Taiwanese suspensions to USA Escapes, and they fit poorly and get removed pretty quickly. You could ask the vendor to show you a successful install of their parts on a USA Escape, it shouldn't be that hard with a video. Your call if you still want to fork out money to test fit parts for a vendor :peace: .
