Take advantage of this. To mark Canada’s 150th anniversary, Parks Canada offering free admission to all national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada.

Your 2017 Discovery Pass provides free admission for the entire year. For the full details and to get your free Discovery pass, go to the Canadian government's Parks Canada website.

When I first heard of this, I thought: "what a great time to visit the parks and avoid some of those onerous fees".

However, the most popular parks such as Pacific Rim, Banff and Jasper are going to be even worse zoos than usual. It's not worth the $10 or so per day to have the experience degraded by throngs of people. Maybe visiting some of the parks that see fewer visitors. It might be worth it to take the year to visit other non-national parks that will have visitors than usual this year.
