I've heard that a lot and from one person who owned one that there's a hard 1-2 shift. But mine glides into 2nd gear too early and smoothly. Sometimes it'll shift into 2nd at 5mph. When it's cold it'll wind up to about 2600rpm, hold it, and bump into 3rd gear, and it makes a loud "thump" in the rear end too and feels like the rear end lifts up a bit.
The only way I can describe it is that it's like a very overworked 4cyl. I have to baby it for it to shift below 2200rpm, and hammer on it after it shifts and let off slightly when I want it to shift etc. It just takes any enjoyment of driving from it. I've never wanted a CVT before this.
