Does anyone elses 09+ rev too much?

Postby Rochev - November 26th, 2016, 10:47 pm

My 2009 6F35 transmission wants to shift almost always around 3k rpm. If I take off quick, it takes its time shifting into higher gears so it's actually sluggish. It always wants to rev up high but I lift off the throttle a bit when I want it to shift lower, otherwise it revs up like a 4cyl. Does anyone else notice that? Or is mine messed up?

Disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes. The transmissions learn the drivers driving habits and adjust shift points accordingly. Also, i would change the fluid if you haven't done it in the last 30K. 09's were notorious for wiping out transmissions as the original ECU program made them over modulate the servos, wearing grooves in the transmission case. Ford had released a new ECU flash to stop that, but if the car had mileage on it before hand, wear was already started. My 09 had 2 trans rebuilds under warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I had it flashed at Ford and removed the battery for a while. I change the fluid every 15k or so.
I also went on FORScan and wiped all memory. I guess it's just the way it shifts.

My 4cy 09 shifts too early most of the time, and in normal driving always shifts before 3k unless I'm heavy footing it. Any hard shifts? Mine will hammer second gear at first shift if it's been sitting a while.

I've heard that a lot and from one person who owned one that there's a hard 1-2 shift. But mine glides into 2nd gear too early and smoothly. Sometimes it'll shift into 2nd at 5mph. When it's cold it'll wind up to about 2600rpm, hold it, and bump into 3rd gear, and it makes a loud "thump" in the rear end too and feels like the rear end lifts up a bit.
The only way I can describe it is that it's like a very overworked 4cyl. I have to baby it for it to shift below 2200rpm, and hammer on it after it shifts and let off slightly when I want it to shift etc. It just takes any enjoyment of driving from it. I've never wanted a CVT before this.

I think the bigger problem is that it wont shift when it's cold and cold outside. It's like the ATF is molasses. It revs up and doesn't accelerate much and I have to let off for it to shift. It drives like a CVT when it's cold :worry:
