Mich_rod ,
how did your swap go?
I'm getting ready to do one on our 05 Tribute from a the stock 2.3 (spun bearing) to a 2.0 from a 2010 focus.
what year was your engine you were swapping to?

Would a 2000 Mazda tribute v6 3.0L Transmission fits in 2005 Ford escape XLT 2.3L?

A 2001 you mean? The transmissions didn't change till 08 it just depends on if its 4 wheel or not.

That is definitely a situation that I would have to do some research on. As far as fitting, yes it would "fit". Like mazdashark said the transmission are the same (CD4E). However, the electrical components, I would guess, are entirely different. You would most likely have to do a full swap of the ECU and all related systems.

TCU and ECU would probably definitely need a swap or reprogram.

Hi I'm new to the forum and looking for a little help. I love your write up and Im neck deep in the same repair.

Everything went smooth until the wrist pins walked out of the bores and destroyed the block on my fresh rebuild. Machine shop (who was very reputeable mind you) threw up there hands and offered me a kind hearted Im sorry. All four Pins walked out in the same direction and gouged all four cylinders. This happened in less then 100 miles!

Anyway, Im back to square one and Escape blocks/motors are crazy expensive plus Im in for a lot of money in parts already. What all would it take to use a Fusion 2.3? You mentioned staying away from VVT versions but I think they all were. Does an intake came swap from my Escape cure it or would that entail and entire head swap, which Im not opposed to. I just need a quick and reasonable solution for a new bottom end. Hind sight being 20/20 I would have gone with a reman motor for $2500 and warranty. Thanks

That would be a fully custom job. You are going to want to find an engine that came in the escape/tribute/mar stock. In 2005 it was a 2.3L

The 2001-2004 used the 2.0 Zetec.

Can you just find a used one from a wrecked escape/tribute/mar with no engine damage?
