Wipers

Not much of a mod, but at least it's exterior...

I replaced all three of the wipers on my 2010 Escape this week. I had the original OEM Valeo blades on for six years, but they had started to become hella streaky, despite looking more or less fine.

Looked at the various sites around the Interwebs and became confused about the multitude of choices on offer (and shocked by the "Change your wiper blades every six months" advice. Seriously? I guess once in six years is not enough, but come on...)

Nehoo, went down to the Costco and bought two 20" Michelin Stealth wiper blades and ordered the Michelin 9512 Rear Windshield Wiper Blade on Amazon.

Could. Not. Be. Happier. What a difference. I'm still not convinced that every six months is the right interval, but I am loving the new blades to be sure.

I always replace mine every six months. I hate streaky windows and blades just don't cost that much to ever be an issue

I assume its the blade manufacturers that say to change them every 6 months lol, maybe they will eventually change it to every 3 months, every month...with every fill up...
I leave mine until they stop clearing the windshield satisfactorily, some seem to last a long time, some dont. In my area we seem to have to pay $20+ for a wiper, so when I order from rockauto, a bunch of $3 blades are added.

I usually buy the Rain-X blades. Not cheap, but they work very well, and last about 2 years before I can't stand them.

I second the Costco blades, by far the best price.

I change mine when I feel they are no longer 100% ... usually after I destroy them trying to hack ice away :)

Yes, the ice on the blades is quite the annoyance.

And new blades from Costco are certainly cheaper than the gasoline and my time that it would take to melt the ice by defrosting from the inside!

I've been really happy with PIAA Super Silicones, they don't break down easily as plain rubber in the sun/dry climate and have lasted about 4 years. They're not as brittle in cold weather . Yes they cost a little more, but they're a lot cheaper than buying a fresh set every 6 months-year. PIAA even sells refills on these if you're old school/cheap, :)P

I use OEM Motorcraft because the are free with the Extended Services Plans (ESP).

Since I have the ESP, I very happy with the set, 1 set per year :thumb: :thumb:

Another vote for PIAA Super Silicone wiper blades. No streaks and not noisy.
